About Jim @
I am a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist and trauma-informed practitioner with over 27 years’ experience working in high-pressure, people-focused roles within blue light services. Alongside my clinical work, I am a BACP-registered counsellor and integrative psychotherapist, supporting clients to make meaningful, lasting changes using a combination of evidence-based talking therapies and solution focused hypnotherapy.
My approach is calm, collaborative and future-focused. I help clients understand how their mind works, reduce anxiety, and build resilience so they can move forward with clarity and confidence. I have particular experience supporting individuals affected by trauma, stress, and anxiety.
I am also a trained Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Debriefer, providing psychological support following traumatic incidents.
Alongside my clinical practice, I am an experienced trainer and keynote speaker, delivering sessions on trauma, emotional wellbeing and the impact of stress on the brain. I am passionate about helping others understand how small changes in thinking and behaviour can lead to significant improvements in wellbeing.
Outside of work, I am a qualified Hill and Moorland Walking Leader, and I value the importance of nature, movement and balance as part of overall mental health and wellbeing.
My Experience
I am a trauma‑informed therapist, Solution Focused Hypnotherapist and Counselling Psychotherapist and company owner of JD Therapy Services, working with clients to create meaningful, lasting change in a calm and supportive environment. I have been working as a therapist since 2024, offering a blend of counselling, hypnotherapy and integrative approaches tailored to each individual.
My work focuses on supporting people with trauma, anxiety, stress and life challenges, using practical, forward‑focused techniques alongside a warm, relational approach. I believe therapy should feel safe, human and accessible, not clinical or overwhelming, and I aim to meet clients where they are, helping them build resilience, gain clarity and move forward at their own pace.
Alongside my clinical work, I am a trained Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Debriefer, providing psychological support following traumatic events. I have also worked as a Mental Health Peer Support Officer and Suicide Awareness Officer within Cheshire Police, supporting individuals in managing emotional wellbeing, trauma and high‑stress situations.
I offer flexible ways of working, including online sessions and walk‑and‑talk therapy in nature, recognising the positive impact that movement and environment can have on recovery and wellbeing.
Training & Qualifications
I am a qualified Solution Focused Hypnotherapist and trauma‑informed practitioner with a strong academic and professional background in counselling, psychological trauma, and mental health support.
I completed my Level 4 Hypnotherapy in Practice Diploma (HPD) in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy with the Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training (CPHT), accredited by the National Council for Hypnotherapy (2025–2026).
Alongside this, I gained a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (2023–2025)
This built on my earlier Level 3 and Level 2 Counselling Skills qualifications, providing a solid foundation in person‑centred and integrative approaches.
My specialist training includes a Postgraduate Degree "Certificate" in Psychological Trauma (MSc level) from the University of Chester, enhancing my understanding of trauma, stress responses, and recovery. I am also trained as a Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Debriefer, supporting individuals and groups following traumatic events.
In addition, I hold an IARTT Rewind Therapy qualification for working with trauma and PTSD, and ongoing professional development in peer support, mental health, and critical incident debriefing through the College of Policing.
My broader background includes training in fraud prevention, financial intelligence, and safeguarding, alongside leadership, training, and development qualifications.
I maintain ongoing professional development to ensure safe, ethical and effective practice, and I am a registered member of the BACP (MBACP).
