About Ermina
I am an Evidence Based Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapist with a BA in Psychology. My focus and specialty is in helping individuals, groups and organisations achieve a positive change through the rewiring of neural pathways with the help of hypnotherapy and mental imagery therapy.
Through scientifically proven motivational intervention that teaches self-motivating skills I use guided mental imagery in conjunction with CBT, hypnotherapy and talking therapy, to rewire neural pathways and help individuals change themselves, altering how they think, feel and behave.
The images we create about our bodies, our physical senses, our potential, or our challenges shape our life. We know from a large body of research that our brains respond to engaging vivid imagery almost as if we are having the “real” experience. In fact our mind 90% of the time doesn't know the difference between imagination and reality, hence why we are frightened and react with an increase heart rate while watching a horror movie or when we imagine that we are biting in to a lemon we start to salivate. Through guided mental imagery we can rewire the neural pathways to help us achieve our goals and overcome obstacles.
Guided mental imagery or guided visualisation helps with choosing new outcomes for oneself and cope better with stressful or challenging situations. Guided imagery (sometimes called guided visualisation mental rehearsal and guided self-hypnosis) is a gentle but powerful technique that focuses the imagination in proactive, positive ways. Hypnotherapy is used to complement and reinforce the new behaviour, feeling or thought patterns.
It is important to note that although it is called mental imagery, mental rehearsal and visualisation, these terms are limited. Guided imagery involves all the senses, not just the visual sense and it is experienced throughout the body, not just mentally.
The power of imagery can be either helpful or a hindrance with regard to motivation, self-esteem, or reaching our goals, just like hypnosis.
We can be negatively hypnotises with our negative thoughts, resulting in negative feelings, behaviour and believes.
For example, an individual who is anxious about an upcoming talk can inadvertently reinforce fears of stumbling or losing their thoughts during their performance, just as someone who has a weight loss goal can have a difficult time releasing the idea of themselves as overweight, and someone with low self esteem doesn't know how it feels and look to have a healthy self esteem.
Often, our emotions and behaviours follow our beliefs, so it’s vital to be aware of the images we hold of ourselves and with guided mental imagery and hypnotherapy we can shift these when necessary.

My Experience
Public Speaking:
Public speaking anxiety, also known as glossophobia,
is one of the most commonly reported social fears.
While some people may feel nervous about giving a speech or presentation, if you have social anxiety disorder (SAD), public speaking anxiety may take over your life.
I use a number of different techniques to help with this anxiety, from changing the camera lens to going through the worst case scenario or practice makes perfect approach.
My usual approach as mentioned above includes mental imagery as well as hypnotherapy to help rewire the brain and reinforce the new belief, feeling and thoughts.
Confidence & Self - Esteem:
The terms self-esteem and self-confidence tend to be used interchangeably.
But they represent two very different ideas.
Self-confidence, for example, can be thought of as that inner judgement we make about our abilities or our qualities. I’m good at public speaking but not singing, for instance. Therefore, I’m a self-confident public speaker.
Self-esteem, on the other hand, tends to remain constant, and it’s a measure of our feelings of self-worth and self-love. If you have low self-esteem, whether you’re public speaking, or singing karaoke, you feel negatively about yours.
The subconscious can be a fierce critic, filling our minds with negative, unhealthy thoughts about ourselves.
The problem is: Overcoming these negative thoughts, images and self talk is a real challenge.
These thoughts are automatic and deeply embedded in our minds. You do something wrong and the inner self talk says "you are
stupid".
But what if these thoughts could be quieted, or removed, or better yet, replaced with positive empowering feelings, thoughts, images and self talk?
That’s the basis of self esteem mental imagery and hypnotherapy
Relationships:
I work with couples, single or taken individuals wanting to better their relationship either with
their partner or with them selves.
Mental Imagery Therapy is great for couples who have lost their spark, are in a rut or just want a better more fulfilling connection with their partner (please note this only works when both parties are willing participants and want a change). This technique usually taps in to the early stages of the relationship or any stage where the relationship was at its best and uses these positive emotions and feelings to reignite and connect the couple. Through MIT we reinforce these memories and emotions and help the couple move in to a new positive space together.
With individuals who are either in a relationship or not but want a healthy, respectful and fulfilling relationships, with family, friends or partner work on the individuals’ relationship with them selves as this spills out in to other sides of our relationships. Once we respect and love our selves we do not accept anything less then that from others. MIT works at rewiring the brain in to a positive and healthy relationship with the self and self-empowerment.
Weight Loss & Body Goals:
I use scientifically proven mental imagery therapy in combination with hypnotherapy to help individual achieve and maintain their body goals. Our subconscious drives our behaviour and some trauma causes us to detach our selves, which is why we lose touch with our body.
Through mental imagery, positive reinforcement, hypnotherapy and including all of our senses we help rewire our brain to see our selves in the desired body shape. This then triggers the mind to help us display and choose behaviour that is conducive to obtaining that goal.
Motivation is a big part in achieving and maintaining our goals and this is exactly what is achieved through this therapy.
There is no eating or exercise plan provided as we connect to our body, mind and goal our mind naturally end up choosing the right food and exercise for us.
