Hi, I wanted to know whether anyone has experience of working with someone with Aphantasia. (Aphantasia is when your brain doesn’t form or use mental images as part of your thinking or imagination). And if so, how best to approach the session. Many thanks, Sam

I have aphantasia and I am able to be hypnotized just like everyone else. When the person says to imagine, I do it in my own way. For me, it is more of me narrating what it would look like. If I am imagining a scene, I say in my head what it would look like, but I don't actually see it.

Hello Sam: This is something I come across frequently. Here is one way I find very successful. I put on the sound of a clock and have them listen to the sound of the second hand. Have them see the time as it is in that moment in their minds eye. Have them (with closed or open eyes) follow the sound of the second hand to the point the client can feel the eye muscles moving. As I am doing this I do a slow progressive body relaxation continually reminding them to follow the sound of the second hand. I find this is very powerful as they do not need to visualize. It will put them in a very deep hypnotic state where you can then get to the point of issue. I hope this helps. Good luck! Donna Lee

I also focus on how and what they feel rather than see. I love the ticking clock suggestion too

I've had two clients with aphantasia. One couldn't imagine anything and the other could only imagine things in trance.
