Due to see a 10 year old girl with a phobia of slugs.

I have worked with an 8 year old before with anxiety and worries around school and created a child like story, created characters with the 8 year old and spoke about their special powers, these were then used in the script to help her overcome the anxiety and gain confidence, we also had a session where I cut out blank body shapes and we coloured them in whilst talking about the characters, worked really well!

Do you think a post-hypnotic response suitable for a 10 year old might help? I have just used it with a client who was much older mind you, and he has found it helpful for the fear of heights. I asked him to imagine a time when he felt proud of a success (so inducing the good stuff!) and asked him to name this in his mind (as a 'key word' but can adapt to a 10 year old) and then said to accompany it with a long slow deep breath followed my imagining somewhere calm and relaxing in nature.
Just a suggestion but I would use this and adapt it for a young person. As long as they imagine well, can name something (key-word) and take the long slow deep breath when required I think they will do well. Perhaps more than one session too. I'd be interested to see how you get on. All the best, Amanda
