It’s great you whittled down the feeling of your client!!
For me, I would then look up synonyms for that word.

Which, in your client’s case, regret’s synonyms are:
Mourn
Lament
Sorrow
Repentance
Guilt
Shame
Self-condemnation
Grieve
Disappointment
Sadness

(Regret also generates feelings of anxiety, so you can choose any anxiety scripts that fit your client’s situation)
