Hypnotizing something without their knowledge to stop bad habits?

I am just curious, is it possible to hypnotize someone without them knowing to help them stop certain bad habits? Can something be played while they sleep for example?

Hypnosis for change will only work if the client is acceptable to the change. It's also unethical to attempt to hypnotize someone without their knowledge.

All hypnosis is self hypnosis. So no, is the short answer. However, with subtle embodied suggestions you can positively influence someone. Look into NLP for examples :)
