Re: Resistance to Relaxation

Are you asking how to approach resistance to relaxation? If so, you could begin an induction by saying that you are not going to ask them to relax because only they know when they are ready to relax. And when they are ready to relax they will automatically relax at their choosing. Then move on to a guided imagery or metaphor. Hypnosis is not necessarily relaxation....it can be distraction.... Have them begin to wonder about their own process and journey by asking "can you imagine what it will be like when" or Just think about how wonderful it will be when".... Reinforce that there is nothing for them to do but follow along and that they can choose to relax or choose not to relax but when they are ready to relax they will - with their body feeling more relaxed and their thoughts more relaxed. etc etc.... remember, hypnotic state is entered everyday without us being relaxed. It is a level of consciousness, not relaxation.
