Please help! I cannot seem to get anyone to quit smoking. I qualified in March and I've had a few clients in but I seem to be getting it all wrong?! It's possible that my assessments of clients are wrong.. but to be honest...I'm thoroughly disheartened.. I'm using suggestions and/or aversion and it seems a lot of other hypnotherapists find this easy to succeed in, but I can't! Driving me mad! Is this usual at the beginning of a hypnotherapists career??

My success rate is pretty good with smoking cessation. My average is 2 sessions. I do not guarantee, clients ask. I ask them to not smoke for 2 hours prior to session. As an ex-smoker, I find aversion doesn't work. I knew that it is causing all kinds of health problems. Did it help me quit? No. I use positive suggestions. Anything from feeling healthier to feeling extremely proud. Hope this helped a bit.

Are you taking a comprehensive pre consultation assessment? This can also show reasons as to why people are afraid to quit, what has held them back before, why they smoke, why they want to quit etc.., and also IF they really, really want to quit. Hypnosis is not a magical wand, unless the client is ready. Sometimes helpful suggestions will work like for e.g. when you feel like smoking, take in three deep breaths. You can add to the script.

Hi Julie I am a Psychotherapist and usually when a client comes to my office I always get a full history starting with childhood. You want to know who smoked in the family if anyone, who had addictions, anxiety, and if there are any traumas. A lot of my patients have had traumas, they became anxious and started smoking. Unless you ask, the client is not going to disclose any traumas. Actually you can ask for any disturbing memories that the client may have that makes him nervous and then the desire to smoke, Ask questions as to when the client smokes and what time of the day so you can figure out if is due to boredom as well. If you need any more help, please free to call me at 786-486-2033. I am very successful doing hypnosis and you can be just as successful as me or better. Good luck. The hypnosis script that I use most of the times the works the first time is "Smoking Aversion Script" I personalize it to each client.

Hi, I am new to this too. I have only been doing since the beginning of the year and I have failed at a smoking cessation. It is very disheartening but ask yourself how committed they were. Mine had cigarettes in the house so I have decided to take no responsibility as there was no real commitment from the client. It may not be you so just bare that in mind. Going forward my clients commitment will be tested further. I have also failed to help someone with insomnia which I am gutted about and also with a needle phobia. :( But I am being really positive and know I am getting better and better and I bet you are as well. :)
