Crisp addiction
A client of mine loves crisps, she lives for them. She cannot go a single day without a packet and the packets have got bigger and bigger. She loves the taste, the texture, the aroma of them. She is only 19 and hides the packets so her mum doesnt know how many she has eaten. This girl wants to stop eating them as she is gaining a lot of weight. Would you class this as an addiction?
Re: crisp addiction
Yes it is an addiction because you said she can not go a single day without them; she wants to reduce weight but still can not give them up and the packet of crisps are getting bigger and bigger. Definately Yes it is an addiction. I would suggest doing a script and then Parts therapy to find out why she can not give them up.
Re: crisp addiction
How about a visual aid? Because crisps contain so much fat, you can actually light them and they will burn like a candle? That may help put her off!
Re: crisp addiction
There are a few things at play here, definitely sounds like an addiction. If you have done NLP I’d be inclined to do like to dislike, find the submodalities for her crisps and change them by finding the submodalities from something she really doesn’t like and apply them to the crisps. You could make it so disgusting that she wouldn’t want to eat another crisp again…if that’s what she really wants.
Parts sounds like a good option too. The crisps are fulfilling some need at the moment. I’d be curious as to when this started, what was happening in her life at that time. Sounds like she’s getting great comfort and pleasure from them but knows they aren’t helping her and in fact are doing the opposite. There are a few other options like ‘Fork in the road’. If you go down this path I.e. continuing what you’re doing, where will you be in 1 year, how will your life be, what will the impact be, 5 years…10 years and so forth and then come back to the fork in the road and if you choose the path of change, how will life look in 1 year, how will you feel, what will you be able to do, how do you see yourself…5 years…10 years and so on. Good luck Maria Page
