Fear of Elevators Hypnosis Script
Script Summary:
Psychotherapists may use soon be using virtual reality to treat people with phobias. Researchers at
Emory University and the Georgia Institute of Technology exposed volunteer acrophobia patients to computer-generated scenes designed to desensitize them to heights. The results showed a significant improvement in managing the fear of heights. The task was accomplished by designing head-mounted display equipment. They also created virtual elevators, imaginary balconies, and digital bridges the patients simulated 'riding in,' 'standing on,' or 'walking across.' After all this, most subjects experienced a noticeable reduction in discomfort after seven sessions. They also experienced recognizable progress in the outside world well.
The long term plan is to study the effects of virtual reality therapy on a number of other phobic disorders.
The fear of elevators can develop from a single negative experience in an elevator in the past. The incident may not even be memorable a sharp feeling of anxiousness about a test in school in an elevator may be enough. No matter what the cause the effect of fear of lifts is the same. When individuals begin altering, restricting, or limiting their day-to-day activities to prevent a panic attack, it's time to seek treatment. For these people any building with an elevator or a lift is 'off limits'…at least above a certain floor. Those with a phobia of elevators may find a resolution to their problem by trying hypnosis.
Hypnotic World has designed a specific fear of lifts hypnosis script that is much less complicated, time consuming, and so far more effective than 'virtual reality' without the cost and 'hardware.'
The first step in this effective fear of lifts script activates multi-sensory visualization. By engaging many streams of sensory input simultaneously this script fully engages the client in the process. Using visual, auditory, and kinesthetic cues clients establish a 'safe place' retreat within.
This script then engages the subconscious in a metaphoric story that would have made
Milton Erickson himself proud. Erickson was in fact recognized for using metaphoric communication in the hypnosis healing process from creating rapport to changing beliefs. This metaphoric script is capable of sneaking otherwise alarming or controversial ideas or concepts into the subconscious in a non-threatening manner.
To Erickson the trance state "magnifies and amplifies communication" enabling the subject to filter out vast quantities of 'not relevant information." Trance allows communication directly with the subconscious opening access to all the memories, information, and experience stored there. This disarms the conscious filters that would otherwise interpret or influence the nature of the incoming information. This fear of lifts hypnosis script combines metaphor with indirect suggestions. Indirect and permissive suggestions are more effective. Indirect suggestions enhance rather than challenge the patient's need for control.
This metaphor puts the mind to work on itself turning awareness inward to help clients discover connections and solutions at the unconscious level. Fear of lifts is often marked by an earlier incident trapped in the subconscious. The creative nature of the metaphor in this fear of lifts hypnosis script stimulates subconscious insight. The metaphor reframes the situation to the client's subconscious in acceptable format. This inspires cooperation rather than resistance, which in turn leads to solutions rather than further repression and fear.
Finally this script takes clients on a 'practice' excursion under hypnosis. Visualizing practice excursions gives clients the 'virtual' experience of riding in an elevator without all the wires, cables, and programming. This is the same conditioning method professional athletes use to mentally 'rehearse' game moves and actions to perfect their skills.
This combination of powerful techniques has the potential to reduce or eliminate the fear or resistance to lifts or elevators quickly and efficiently. While any one of these approaches might do the job this script intertwines a number of hypnotic skills and approaches to offer your clients the greatest potential benefit.
